Welcome to GMG Academy of the Arts! We are so excited that you’ve chosen us for your child’s music education! We plan on giving your child the best experience in their musical journey, but in this process not only are there responsibilities of our instructors, but there are responsibilities of the student as well as our GMG parents. We can’t do this alone, therefore we use a triangular approach to learning. It involves the Student, the Parents, and the Teacher in partnership.

Please carefully read through the following policies and procedures and feel free to ask any questions that you may have.

Our mission is to provide your child the opportunity to explore their creativity and learn through the arts in a challenging and nurturing environment! Our goal is to use music education as a doorway to learning and strengthening skills that they will use for the rest of their lives in school and beyond.

When enrolling in GMG, it is required for students to have their own instruments for practice at home. Excellent instruments are available today at moderate prices. Beginning students may wish to purchase a “starter” instrument, although investing in an intermediate-level instrument may, in the long run, prove more economical as a student’s skill level and musical demands increase over time. Keyboard/piano students should not practice on badly maintained, out-of-tune pianos. Drum students are not required to start out with a drum set, but will need a good quality practice pad. The early years of musical study are very important for the development of an accurate “ear” and an out of tune instrument inhibits this learning. GMG Academy of the Arts immerse students in one of the best music educational learning experiences possible without being enrolled in a college program, all before the age of 18!

    • GMG's Program is designed around its core classes of Piano, Voice, Guitar and Drums. Student enrollment is between the ages of 4-18.

    • Athletes play on Teams, Musicians play on Bands. Performance helps build Teamwork, Communication Skills, Leadership and more!

    • GMG Elective Classes are great for students to explore other areas such as Band Collaboration, Studio Production, Digital Photography and more!

    • Students in grades 5-8th participate in GMG's after school program during the academic year.

    • This audition based summer program is more than a summer camp, it's a Summer Music Experience! Student enrollment is between the ages of 9-18.



The goal at GMG is that every student be enrolled in a group class, however if there is not an immediate class the student can join, they will be enrolled in a Private Track upon approval from the director according to the following exceptions,

a.) the class has already begun prior to enrollment or

b.) there is not a class available for the instrument and skill level of the student.

The duration of the Private Track will be determined by the progress of the student and ultimately the recommendation of the instructor. Please note that there are limited Private Track slots available and that some students may be added to an enrollment waiting list.


The GMG Leadership Team is a group of students (ages 13+) who desire to be leaders among their peers and in their community. Our goal is to provide opportunities to train and develop your child with life skills through the vehicle of performing arts.

Under the guidance of the Directors and GMG Instructors – your child will be welcomed into an encouraging and safe atmosphere to grow and learn.

GMG Leadership Team participates in community service and volunteer opportunities. Community service hours are given for all volunteer hours. Participating students will receive special recognition during the Spring Recital. You must be currently enrolled in a GMG program to be eligible.

Complete the online application and a recommendation from your instructor. Once the application is reviewed, we will schedule a time for a student interview with the Director.

SUMMER MUSIC ACADEMY Teacher's Assistant (TA)

Similar to the GMG Student Leadership Team, students 13 -18 years old who have been enrolled in the Summer Music Academy Session I or are currently enrolled in GMG are eligible to apply to be a Teacher’s Assistant (TA). This will allow the student to work as a GMG TA, gaining leadership skills by working alongside GMG staff in Session II of the Summer Music Academy for students ages 9-12. Students must be nominated by an instructor in order to apply online.

Students aver the age of 18 may apply for an intern position.


The GMG Players consists of students enrolled in the Accelerated Music Programs, also known as AMP. These students must audition to become a part of this performing group. AMP students perform at various community events and must uphold the requirements to remain in the program by remaining in good standing at GMG and have acceptable grades of a B average or higher. Being a part of AMP gives students the chance to gain invaluable performance experience.

Students are nominated to audition based on the following criteria:

  • Prepared for Lessons

  • Positive Attitude

  • Self-Motivated


Disruptive behavior, poor academic performance or any other disturbing reports can prevent students from participating.




Our parental involvement is essential to creating successful practice habits for your child. Students who do not practice will not be successful at GMG Academy of the Arts and are advised not to enroll until they have time to develop a practice routine. 

Your child's instructor will assign weekly home assignment goals to be completed at home. These assignments are intended to be completed on time for 100 points each. When submitted late the student will receive half credit. These points are factored into their overall assessment score. Students need a 90% to pass the end of the quarter assessment.

The purpose of giving our students these goals is so that they can practice and apply what they are learning in the classroom. Younger students are going to need their parents assistance in making sure that their home assignments are completed and sent to their instructor each week. Your child's assignment are listed in their class account in NEO, our Learning Management System.

If the student does not understand the goals for that week we recommend the student contact the instructor by messaging him/her in NEO or schedule a private lesson to keep them up with the class, preventing them from falling behind. The cost of a 30-minute private lesson is $25.00 or if a parent has private lesson access he/she may request to schedule a private lesson without a charge based upon the teacher's availability and approval. Private lessons can be scheduled 7 days in advance and with as little as 24 hour notice online in NEO LMS.

When a student misses a Home Assignment, the parent will be notified after their next class and via email. If the student neglects to submit the assigned Home Assignments with their weekly goals three times within a quarter (3 months), it will be grounds for dismissal from GMG. In order for a student to be considered for on site re-enrollment at GMG, they must complete two successful quarters of GMG Online. 



Students are not permitted to enter the classroom without their materials. It is the student’s responsibility to keep materials provided by GMG, such as books, assignments and handouts.

Parents are encouraged to check their emails and their GMG Learning Management Account regularly for updates and assignments. Students are encouraged to ask any questions they may have by emailing or calling the office.



Time will not be taken from the lesson or class to accommodate late arrivals. It is asked that all parents arrive ten minutes prior to the end of the class so they can briefly discuss the progress of their child and to avoid picking up students late. Parents dropping off students at the lesson location and leaving do so at their own risk and GMG cannot be held responsible under any circumstances.



Please be courteous and notify the office when your child will be absent from class. You may do this by simply texting or calling the office number at 803-728-3399. If a parent fails to notify the office of an absence a $10 no show charge will be assessed to the parent/guardian account within 24 hours. Absolutely No Exceptions.

If your child is enrolled in the After School Program and will not be attending or will not need pick-up, parents are required to contact the office by 2pm the day of your child's absence.

Students are still responsible for their lesson that was covered in class. If a student cancels he/she may schedule a private lesson (if they have unlimited private lesson access) or purchase an additional private lesson for $25 for 30-minutes to stay on course with his/her class.


GMG Classes are arranged in Quarters and each class will have an end of the quarter assessment. As students pass their assessment they graduate to the next level.

  • Q1: (Fall) September, October, November

  • Q2: (Winter) December, January, February

  • Q3: (Spring) March, April, May

  • Q4: (Summer) June, July, August



There is no long-term contract for enrollment in GMG Academy of the Arts. If a parent wishes to withdraw their child from GMG, he/she must submit a 30-day written notice of withdrawal by email to info@gmgacademyofthearts.com by the 1st of the month preceding the month that you intend to end enrollment. The student may choose to remain enrolled during the dis enrollment notice 30-day period.

For example, if you plan to discontinue/suspend lessons in May, then we will need to receive your written notice prior to the first lesson in April. If no notice is given prior to the first lesson of the month, then the student/parent will be responsible for the next full month's tuition. Notice given to the instructor only (verbally or otherwise) and non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal from lessons.


GMG has a week summer break around the 4th of July and follows Richland School District Two for student holiday and inclement weather closings.

GMG Closings Include (any additional closing will be listed on the Richland School District Two's Website):

  • Christmas

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day

  • Spring Break

  • Presidents Day

  • July 4th week



Students who demonstrate class participation, are in good standing by completing home assignments with their goals and have good class attendance are eligible to apply to participate in upcoming performances. Students must pass his/her performance assessment for approval to participate in GMG and community performances. 

If the student does not pass his/her performance assessment they will have the opportunity to come and be a part of the audience. GMG will hold two (2) concerts each year in addition to community events. Our Annual Music Celebration Concert is during the Spring and our Winter Music Celebration Concert is during the month of December.

At the conclusion of the Winter Music Celebration Concert we have a Secret Santa Gift Exchange for all students, so even if your child is not performing we would love for them to participate as an audience member so that they will know what to expect when he/she performs and so they can participate in receiving a gift.


Please note that GMG (as well as members of the media) may from time to time photograph or make audio or video recordings of students, students’ families and friends, and other members of an audience in attendance at a performance for the purpose of advertising, promoting and increasing awareness of GMG (and reporting on events of local interest). By enrolling and signing up, parents hereby give their permission for GMG (as well as members of the media) to so photograph and make such audio and video recordings of their student(s). GMG will own the copyright of its photographs and audio and video recordings and as such may publish the same in any medium (and the media member will own the copyright of its photographs and audio and video recordings and may publish the same).


GMG Academy of the Arts is tuition based and therefore does not prorate for holidays and days out. The monthly tuition payment is drafted on the 1st of each month, unless enrolled in the GMG Music & Arts After School Academy, in which the tuition will be drafted on the 1st and the 15th of the month. The Annual Registration Fee is $50 per student or $80 for more than one sibling. The registration and material fee is non-refundable. There is a $35 semi-annual material fee due at the time of enrollment and again in January for students enrolled in GMG's Music & Arts After School Program.


If your automatic tuition payment is declined and your tuition payment is not paid by the 5th of the month, your account will be automatically charged a $25 late fee per student and $10 each additional week, no exceptions. Checks are not accepted. It is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to ensure we have been provided a valid credit/debit card. Anytime your payment information needs to be updated, you can do so by calling the office. GMG Academy of the Arts reserves the right to suspend or discontinue instruction of any student whose parent is delinquent in fulfilling his/her financial obligations at any time.


All Students are required to sign in. Students under the age of 13 are required to have a parent or guardian be present upon arrival to and departure from each class. All students 13 and older may sign themselves in and out, but children under the age of 13 must be walked into the music school by a parent or guardian. 


We take the safety of our students seriously. Unless written notice is given to GMG Academy of the Arts, permission is granted to GMG and its operators to seek medical treatment for the participant in the event they are not able to reach a parent or guardian. Parent/Guardian must also submit written notice for any physical/mental problems, restrictions, or conditions.

I, (the GMG parent and/or guardian), understand the possibility of injuries resulting from activities sponsored by GMG Academy of the Arts. I hereby acknowledge and accept all risks and hazards incidental to participate in such activities. I hereby release, indemnify and hold harmless GMG Academy of the Arts and its coordinators, volunteers and staff from any injury, of the participant or participants, resulting from such activities. In case of personal injury due to activities sponsored by GMG to the participant, I hereby waive any and all claims against any person who, on behalf GMG Academy of the Arts, is involved in transportation of participant in connection with GMG Program activities. I hereby consent to emergency medical treatment of participant to ensure prompt treatment and prevention of undue delay, and I understand that such treatment may be provided by either a licensed physician or trained emergency care technician.
